For the birds out there with brains…

This is a blog for women (and all the men in our lives) to learn a little more about things we deal with all the time.

So what does that mean?  Well, let’s take PMS.  Pretty universal, right?  It’s that time of the month, you have a stressful day at work, your boss yells at you, you miss your train, then your boyfriend forgets to order your pad thai without the scallions…  You know it really isn’t a big deal.  In fact, you’re fully aware that at any other time of the month, you wouldn’t care at all.  But this week, and just this week, it is a BIG DEAL.

So what is going on here?  Hormones, obviously.  But maybe there are other things going on too.  For example, research shows that the symptoms we call PMS, which we usually think of as totally biological, are actually culture-bound—people in other cultures don’t get them!!  Crazy, right??  That’s what this blog is all about.  New perspectives on women’s everyday lives.

So welcome to Birds with Brains, where research meets real life.
